Hidden gems around Kanyakumari — Don’t miss it!
If you have one day more but you complete your Kanyakumari tour than what to do? Not to worry about it. I’m here to guide you properly. Promise you, my plan will not let you waste a single day in the hotel room. Let’s start our journey.
Padmanabhapuram Palace:
Just an hour northwest of Kanyakumari is the town of Padmanabhapuram. Padmanabhapuram Palace, also known as Kalkulam Palace. This palace is located in Padmanabhapuram in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. The palace is owned and maintained by the government of the neighboring state of Kerala. The palace was constructed around 1601 CE by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal who ruled Venad between 1592 and 1609.
When I entered the palace area, my excitement became damp. Because this palace does not look like other royal palaces. But when I finally stepped into the palace my mind changed within the blink of the eyes. This is a majestic wooden palace that shows the ultimate Keralite architecture.
King’s council chamber, king’s bedroom, performance hall, Saraswati temple and so many things of the palace appears towards you as a fairy tale. At the end, I must say that if you skip this palace you miss a wonderful tourist place in Tamil Nadu.
Poovar Back Water:
Kerala backwaters offer a unique experience to the travelers! Yes. You are right. My next plan is to go Poovar to enjoy an authentic boating on the backwater. This destination is really great for a day trip from Kanyakumari. When you reach the destination, you find many boating agencies. Just book your ride and start to explore the backwater inside the Mangrove forest.
Even, you can consider this as a bird watching tour. If you are feeling thirsty, don’t worry! you can have fresh coconut water from the floating shop. You can enjoy authentic Keralites meals on the floating restaurant. That's enough talking about the food. let’s start again to enjoy the ride. Now the center of the attraction comes that is estuary. Yes, backwater meets here with the sea. There is a small beach where you can enjoy an exotic view with a roaring sea. Never miss to see Elephant stone which is very close to the beach.
Thirparappu Waterfalls:
Our next destination is the Thirparappu Waterfall. It is located in the Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. The waterfalls created by the Kodayar (Kothai) River. Near the falls there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This place is famous for the pilgrimage. You can enjoy the falls by taking a bath. For this reason, you have to carry one set of cloth. There is a paid changing room.
When I saw the falls for the first time, only one word came out from my mouth that was — ‘wow’! You can't believe the beauty of the falls until you go there. I was really stunned by its wonderful scenery. I highly recommend this place to go and take the ultimate taste of a falls’s charm.
Your one day trip from Kanyakumari ends here. I hope my plan does not disappoint you. Wait! after returning to the hotel, you will have the entire evening to enjoy Kanyakumari's beachside shopping. Have half an hour rest and go to the beach and enjoy your evening in Kanyakumari.
